Jobs in Birmingham Vehicle Simulator
Pick taxi to learn the centre, a numbered bus route to learn the stops, and leave police response for the moment the wanted level climbs.

A shift is a vehicle plus a task. The task is what pays. The vehicle is what you unlock by finishing shifts, not by driving in circles.
Four ways the city pays
Taxi work is an NPC in, an NPC out. The drop is a point on the same centre you will later drive as a bus. Do this first if the station names are still noise.
A double-decker shift follows a numbered route. The blind and the next-stop call are the job. Route 33 is the city-centre run: Price Street, then Moor Street Queensway for Moor Street Interchange, staying in the left lane. Route 16 is the Bull Ring Markets run. Those two are not interchangeable. The stop list is on the bus routes page.
Emergency work is a call you accept. Paramedic and police patrol sit in that services lane when you choose them. That is not the same as the police car that spawns because your wanted level went up.
Street races and wraps use a vehicle you already have. A wrap does not teach New Street. A race does not clear a bus stop you skipped.
